Damned if I know. It seemed appropriate, as a joke that’s followed me for 40 years, since I learned to fish trout while serving a summer sentence in Labrador with the Iron Ore Company of Canada and took to signing letters home as ‘Trout Enterprises Inc’.
Outside of work in the open pit mines, there wasn’t much else to do up there and the trout took on an inordinate importance in the minds of my fellow inmates and me. It’s a metaphor. I think. A prettier image than black flies. Why not fish?
